As part of the NGV Festival of Photography, the NGV presents a suite of contemporary photography exhibitions, including presentations by William Eggleston, Bill Henson, Patrick Pound, Zoë Croggon and Ross Coulter, alongside dedicated events and programs.
Photography is one of the most diverse and prolific areas of contemporary practice, including as it does the work of practitioners who see themselves in the more traditional guise of ‘photographer’, along with multi-disciplinary artists.
Taking over a number of galleries across the NGV, the NGV Festival of Photography highlights new acquisitions of international and Australian photographers’ works, which have been actively collected by the NGV in recent years.
Other displays will present the work of some of the most challenging and exciting photographers working today, including: Elad Lassry, Sophie Calle, Paola Pivi, Pieter Hugo, Danny Singer, Ceal Floyer, Lucia Koch, David Rosetzky, Polly Borland, Adam Fuss, Thomas Demand.
The NGV Festival of Photography provides an opportunity to be immersed in exciting new works of photography, digitally produced prints as well as film based projects by both established and emerging artists.

Coinciding with MGA’s 25th anniversary, this exhibition is a celebration of the Monash Gallery of Art, City of Monash Collection. The collection was established by the Waverley City Gallery in the 1970s, before being transferred to MGA when it was opened in 1990. This collection developed a specialist focus on the medium of photography in the 1980s, and MGA has retained and refined that focus over the last 25 years. The now nationally significant collection currently holds over 2400 works and is the only collection in the world that is exclusively dedicated to Australian photography.
This exhibition brings together a selection of key works from the collection. It includes photographs by artists such as Polly BORLAND, Pat BRASSINGTON, Olive COTTON, Max DUPAIN, Bill HENSON, Carol JERREMS, Rosemary LAING, Ricky MAYNARD, Tracey MOFFATT, David MOORE, Polixeni PAPAPETROU, Patricia PICCININI, Michael RILEY, Wolfgang SIEVERS, Mark STRIZIC, Darren SYLVESTER and Anne ZAHALKA to name just a few.
